Get beta updates#

Beta versions let you try new features and fixes before everyone gets them. They're tested, but less than released versions, so use them on computers where an occasional problem is acceptable. Current versions shows whether a beta newer than the released version is out, and the changelog lists what changed in each one.

Applies to#

  • Jump Desktop for Windows, Jump Desktop for Mac, and Jump Desktop for iPhone and iPad.
  • Jump Desktop Connect for Windows and Mac. Beta updates aren't offered for Jump Desktop Connect for Linux Alpha.
  • Jump Desktop for Android Beta is itself a beta: install it from Google Play.

Jump Desktop#

Jump Desktop is the app you connect from.

  1. Click File > Settings, or press Ctrl+,.
  2. Click Updates, then select Install Beta Updates.
  3. To update now, click Check For Updates. Otherwise Jump Desktop installs the next beta when it checks for updates on its own.

These steps are for Jump Desktop downloaded from jumpdesktop.com. If you installed it from the Mac App Store, use TestFlight instead (see the Mac App Store, iPhone, and iPad tab), or switch to the version from jumpdesktop.com.

  1. Click Jump Desktop > Settings… (Preferences… on macOS 12 and earlier), or press Command+,.
  2. In General, select Check for Beta updates.
  3. To update now, click Jump Desktop > Check For Updates....

Betas of Jump Desktop from the App Store and the Mac App Store are distributed through Apple's TestFlight.

  1. Email support@jumpdesktop.com and ask to join the TestFlight beta. Say which devices you use: iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  2. Accept the TestFlight invitation you receive, and install the beta from the TestFlight app.

Jump Desktop Connect#

Jump Desktop Connect runs on the host, the computer you connect to. Turn on beta updates on each host, or, for a team, on many hosts at once.

On a host#

The steps are the same on Windows and Mac.

  1. Open Jump Desktop Connect and click the settings (gear) icon.
  2. Click Updates, then select Install Beta Updates.
  3. To update now, click Check For Updates.... Otherwise Connect gets the next beta at its next automatic update check.

If Install Beta Updates is unavailable, or your choice has no effect, your team manages updates for the host. Ask your team administrator.

For a team's hosts#

On Jump Desktop for Teams Enterprise, administrators choose the update channel for hosts with a Connect Configuration. The configuration's choice overrides Install Beta Updates on each host it applies to.

  1. In the Teams dashboard, open your team. Under Tasks, click Connect Settings, then click New Configuration (or edit an existing configuration).
  2. In the Updates settings, set Update Channel to Beta, then click Save.
  3. Assign the configuration to the computers or Access Groups that should get beta updates.

To stop beta updates on those hosts, set Update Channel to Production.
