Add and manage computers

Add computers to your team from Add Computers in the Teams dashboard, then rename or remove them from Computers. Once a computer is in the team, administrators control who can connect to it. For example, run an installer on new office computers, or move computers you set up with your personal account into the team.

Applies to

  • Any Jump Desktop for Teams plan. There's no limit on the number of computers.
  • Team administrators.
  • Installer downloads for Windows (EXE and MSI) and macOS (PKG). For Linux (beta), there's no dashboard download: pass a pre-configured installer's Connect Code to the install script.
  • A computer can belong to only one team.

Choose a method

Method Use it when
Pre-configured installer Installing Connect on new computers, including mass deployment.
Connect Code Connect is already installed.
Sign in as an administrator You're at the computer and can sign in.
Attributed installer Someone else adds a computer, and you want a record of who added it.
Personal account migration Your computers are linked to your personal Jump Desktop account.

Create a pre-configured installer

A pre-configured installer adds the computer to your team when it runs, with no sign-in.

  1. In the Teams dashboard, open your team and click Add Computers.
  2. Click New Installer.
  3. Enter a Name.
  4. Under Remote Access Permissions, click Add Permissions and choose the Access Groups and users who can connect to computers added with this installer.
  5. Optional: under Connect Configuration, select a Connect Configuration for those computers.
  6. Click Create.

The installer's details open. Click Windows (EXE), Windows (MSI), or Mac OS (PKG) to copy its download link. To see the links and Connect Code later, click the installer under Pre-configured installers.

Warning

Links are public: anyone who has one can add a computer to your team. If the installer has no remote access permissions, nobody can connect to its computers until you give access.

When deploying to many computers, don't rename the downloaded file. See Deploy Connect to many computers.

Add a computer that already has Connect

On the computer, use one of these:

  • Connect Code: Copy the Connect Code under the installer's name in Add Computers and enter it in Connect. The installer's remote access permissions and Connect Configuration apply. See Add a computer with a Connect Code.
  • Sign in: In Connect, click Add a remote access user. In the browser, choose Myself or someone on my team and sign in. Under Your Team, pick the team, choose who will have remote access, and click Add To team name. Only teams where you're an administrator are listed.

Create an attributed installer

With an attributed installer, the person adding the computer signs in with any Jump Desktop account, and Activity Logs record who it was. Because someone must sign in, it can't be used for unattended mass deployment.

  1. In Add Computers, click the more menu (⋮) and choose New Attributed Installer.
  2. Enter a Name, add Remote Access Permissions, and optionally select a Connect Configuration.
  3. Click Create.
  4. Send the person the installer's Connect Code.

On the computer, the person:

  1. Installs Jump Desktop Connect from jumpdesktop.com/go and opens it. See Install and uninstall Jump Desktop Connect.
  2. Clicks Add a remote access user, then Give remote access to someone else.
  3. Enters the Connect Code and signs in.

Move your personal computers into the team

A migration replaces your personal account with the team's account in Connect on each of your computers.

  1. In Add Computers, click the more menu (⋮) and choose Migrate personal computers.
  2. Under Remote Access Permissions, choose who can connect to the migrated computers. You're added by default.
  3. Click Create Migration, then click Create Migration again to confirm.

Online computers migrate right away; offline computers migrate when they next come online. To stop a migration, click its delete icon under Personal Account Migrations.

To move computers back, delete the team and select Migrate computers to my personal account.

View computer details

Click Computers, then click a computer. The details show its Status, IP Address, Last Online, Connect settings, Connect version, Machine ID, and Machine Hostname, plus Remote Access and Connection History.

To change who can connect, see Control access with Access Groups. To label computers, see Organize with tags and custom fields.

Rename a computer

In the computer's details, click the edit icon next to its name, enter the new name, and click Rename.

Remove a computer

Nobody on the team can connect to a removed computer. Its connection history is deleted, so export any logs you need first.

  • One computer: In its details, click the more menu (⋮), choose Delete, and confirm.
  • Several computers: In Computers, select them, click Actions, choose Remove computer, and confirm.

Revoke an installer

In Add Computers, click the delete icon next to the installer and confirm. Copies of the installer and its Connect Code stop working. Computers already added stay in the team.
