Lock the mouse cursor#

Locking the cursor confines it to the session window and sends mouse movement to the host, so the cursor does not stop at the window edge. Games require cursor lock for looking around; 3D and CAD apps require it to orbit, pan, and rotate a model.

Applies to#

  • Jump Desktop on Windows, macOS, and iPad with a connected mouse or trackpad. Not available on Android or in a web browser.
  • Fluid connections to Windows or macOS hosts with Jump Desktop Connect. RDP and VNC connections do not support cursor lock, so the menu item is dimmed.

Lock or unlock the cursor#

Choose Remote > Lock Pointer, or press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+L.

To unlock, press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+L again or hold Esc.

Choose Remote > Lock Mouse Cursor, or press Ctrl+Cmd+Esc.

To unlock, hold Esc.

iPad: tap the Settings button in the session toolbar, then Mouse > Lock Mouse Pointer, or press Shift+Cmd+Option+P on a connected keyboard. To unlock, hold Esc. iPhone is not supported.

Check that it worked#

A message confirms the change, such as Cursor Locked (Hold ESC or press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+L to unlock) on Windows or Cursor locked. Hold ESC to unlock. on macOS. Move the mouse toward the edge of the window; the cursor remains inside the session.

Block the local mouse#

Block Local Mouse is a session setting that stops your mouse or trackpad from moving the cursor or clicking on the host; keyboard input continues to work. Use it when a stray touch on a laptop trackpad or a second mouse moves the cursor while you type, or when a redirected drawing tablet should be the only device controlling the cursor.

  • Jump Desktop on Windows and macOS, all plans, with any connection type.
  • Windows: choose Remote > Block Local Mouse, or press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+M.
  • macOS: choose Remote > Block Local Mouse, or press Ctrl+Option+Cmd+M.

A Local mouse blocked message confirms the change. To turn it off, choose the menu item or press the shortcut again (Local mouse enabled). The setting applies to the current session only.

When you redirect a pen tablet over USB, Jump Desktop already ignores duplicate mouse movement it can identify as coming from the pen. If the cursor still conflicts with your pen input, turn on Block Local Mouse. See Pen and stylus input.

Tips#

  • Lock the cursor while you move the view in a game or 3D app, and unlock it to use menus or toolbars.
