Avid Media Composer with Blackmagic SDI

Avid Media Composer can send audio to more than one output at once, such as the Blackmagic device for on-site monitors and Desktop Audio for the remote editor in Jump Desktop. Set this up so an editor can work on the Avid workstation remotely and hear its audio while SDI output keeps running on site.

Applies to

  • Remote computer: the Avid workstation, Windows or macOS, running Jump Desktop Connect.
  • Avid: Media Composer 2024.10 or later.

Steps

On the Avid workstation:

  1. Route system audio to Jump Desktop:
    • Windows: Connect streams the default output device. Make sure Avid audio plays through it.
    • macOS: Connect switches the output to Jump Desktop Audio during a session. If Change Audio Device is off in Connect, set the output to Jump Desktop Audio in Sound settings.
  2. Play any sound and confirm you hear it in your Jump Desktop session. If you don't, see Remote audio.
  3. In Avid, open the Timeline window and click the hardware icon on the timeline toolbar. It shows the name of your Blackmagic device.

  4. Select both your Blackmagic device and Desktop Audio.

Result

SDI video and audio go out through the Blackmagic device, and Avid audio plays in the Jump Desktop session.
