Keyboard and mouse profiles¶
A keyboard and mouse profile is a named set of settings that controls how Jump Desktop for Windows and Jump Desktop for Mac handle your keyboard and mouse in a session: key conversions, Jump Desktop shortcuts, system shortcuts, and mouse shortcuts. Because Windows and Mac shortcuts differ, the right profile lets you use the shortcuts you're used to on either computer.
For example:
- On a Mac connected to a Windows computer, press Cmd+C and Cmd+V to copy and paste, and Cmd+Q to close the remote app.
- Let Cmd+W and Cmd+Q reach a remote Mac instead of closing Jump Desktop.
- Give one computer its own profile, such as a server where you want Jump Desktop's shortcuts off entirely.
Applies to¶
- Jump Desktop on Windows and macOS. On iPhone, iPad, and Android, see Use the keyboard.
- Every connection type. In Jump Desktop for Windows, choosing a profile for a specific computer is only available for computers that connect with Jump Desktop Connect (Fluid).
What a profile contains¶
Each profile has three tabs in settings:

Open profile settings¶
- In the main window, choose File > Settings (Ctrl+,).
- Click Keyboard & Mouse.
- In When connecting to, choose the profile to view or edit.
- Press Cmd+, (comma) to open settings.
- Click Keyboard & Mouse.
- In When connecting to, choose the profile to view or edit.
When connecting to picks the profile to edit, not the profile a computer uses; see Choose the profile a computer uses.
Changes to key conversions apply to open sessions right away.
Key conversions¶
A key conversion sends a different key combination to the remote computer than the one you press, for example Ctrl+C when you press Cmd+C. The built-in profiles already include common conversions; see the defaults below. Set conversions on the Key Conversions tab.
- Enable Key Conversions turns all of the profile's conversions on or off.
- Each conversion has its own checkbox, so you can turn off one without deleting it.
- A Jump Desktop shortcut that uses the same combination takes priority over a conversion.
Add or change a conversion¶
- Click Add, or double-click a conversion to change it.
- Under When I press:, click the modifiers you want (Shift, Control, Alt, Win), then type a key or choose one from the list, such as Home, Esc, or F5.
- Under Send:, set the modifiers and key to send.
- Click OK.
To convert only the left or right modifier, such as Left Control, select Show Individual Modifiers, then click the modifier under When I press: and choose a side. The remote computer always receives the left-hand modifier.
To delete a conversion, select it and click Delete. There's no confirmation.
- Click +, or double-click a conversion to change it.
- In Edit Key Mapping, next to From:, click the modifiers you want (Shift, Control, Alt / Option, Cmd), then type a key in the box or choose one from the list, such as Home, Esc, or F5.
- Next to To:, set the modifiers (Cmd / Win sends Cmd to a Mac and Win to other computers) and key to send.
- Click OK.
Modifiers match either the left or right key.
To delete a conversion, select it and click −. There's no confirmation.
Leave the key empty to convert a modifier on its own. When a conversion sends Alt+Tab, Cmd+Tab, or Win+Tab, the modifier stays held while you hold yours, so you can press Tab repeatedly to move through windows.
Defer Modifiers briefly holds back Alt and Win presses (Option and Cmd on a Mac) before sending them. It works only while Enable Key Conversions is on. It's on by default in the Windows profile, and off in the macOS (Windows app) and Mac (Mac app) profiles.
To check a conversion, connect and press it: the remote computer should respond to the combination in Send: or To:.

Use these when macOS Shortcuts is off. It's on by default in the Mac profile.
Jump Desktop shortcuts¶
Jump Desktop shortcuts, such as full screen or disconnect, control Jump Desktop. While a shortcut is on, its keys aren't sent to the remote computer; turn it off to send them. You can't change which keys a shortcut uses.
On the Keyboard Shortcuts tab:
- Clear a shortcut's checkbox to turn it off. The menu item still works when you click it.
- Enable Jump Desktop Shortcuts turns all of them on or off.
Jump Desktop shortcuts keep working while Windows Shortcuts or macOS Shortcuts is on.

All four are on by default in both built-in profiles. File > Disconnect (Ctrl+Alt+W) isn't in the list and is always on.

What the defaults mean:
- Windows profile: Cmd+Q is sent (as Alt+F4) because Quit Jump is off. Cmd+W, Cmd+H, and Cmd+M still act on Jump Desktop.
- Mac profile: Cmd+Q, Cmd+W, Cmd+H, Cmd+M, and Cmd+` (backtick) go to the remote Mac.
- Other Jump Desktop menu shortcuts that aren't in this list, such as Cmd+, and Cmd+N, go to the remote computer during a session.
- With Enable Jump Desktop Shortcuts off, none of these work in a session, and their key combinations go to the remote computer. Use the menu bar to control Jump Desktop. System shortcuts still follow macOS Shortcuts.
To check, connect and press a shortcut you turned off: the remote computer responds instead of Jump Desktop.
Mouse and gestures¶
The Mouse & Gestures tab sets mouse shortcuts, for example to right-click with a one-button mouse or trackpad. Select a row's checkbox to turn it on, and double-click a row to change its modifier keys and button. Zoom and Remote Zoom can only be turned on or off.

Remote Zoom Sensitivity applies to all profiles.
Choose the profile a computer uses¶
By default, each computer uses Auto (Jump Desktop for Windows) or Automatic (Jump Desktop for Mac): the Mac profile (macOS in Jump Desktop for Windows, Mac in Jump Desktop for Mac) for Mac computers, and the Windows profile for all others. To use a different profile for a computer:
- Disconnect from the computer. Only disconnected computers can be edited.
- Right-click the computer and choose Edit (Ctrl+I).
- Click Keyboard & Mouse.
- Set Profile to Auto or a profile name, then click Save.
Keyboard & Mouse appears only for computers that connect with Jump Desktop Connect (Fluid), not for RDP or VNC computers.
- Right-click the computer and choose Edit... (Cmd+I).
- Click Keyboard & Mouse.
- In Keyboard, set Profile: to Automatic or a profile name, then click Save. Edit… next to it opens profile settings.
The new profile applies the next time you connect.
To change several computers at once, select them all before you edit. If you delete a profile a computer uses, that computer goes back to Auto (Automatic).
To check which profile is in use, connect and try a shortcut that only that profile converts.
Add, duplicate, rename, or delete profiles¶
In When connecting to, choose Edit Profiles....
In Add or Delete Profiles:
- Add: creates an empty profile named New Profile.
- Duplicate: copies the selected profile, named profile name Copy.
- Rename: double-click the name and type.
- Delete: removes the selected profile immediately, with no confirmation.
- Add: click +, then Add Duplicate Profile (copies the selected profile, named profile name Copy) or Add Empty Profile (named New Profile).
- Rename: double-click the name and type.
- Delete: click −. The profile is removed immediately, with no confirmation.
Click OK when you're done.
You can rename the built-in profiles but not delete them.
An empty profile has no key conversions, all Jump Desktop shortcuts on, Defer Modifiers on, and all mouse shortcuts off. System shortcuts start as In Fullscreen on Windows and off on a Mac. To start from a built-in profile's settings instead, duplicate it.
Restore defaults¶
Restore Defaults resets all three tabs of the profile and keeps its name.
- Built-in profile: confirm to replace it with its defaults.
- Your own profile: choose Restore Windows defaults or Restore Mac defaults first.
Limitations¶
- Windows: Ctrl+Alt+Left Arrow is also the Toggle Windows Shortcuts shortcut, which takes priority over the Ctrl+Alt+Left Arrow conversions in both built-in profiles. To use those conversions, turn off Toggle Windows Shortcuts and use Remote > Windows Shortcuts instead.
- Windows: you can't choose a profile for RDP or VNC computers.
- Jump Desktop shortcuts can be turned off but not reassigned.
