Coding and productivity#

Write code, answer email, and work in documents on a host as comfortably as on your own computer. This configuration provides sharp text, a desktop across several screens, familiar keyboard shortcuts, and copy and paste between computers.

For example:

  • A developer codes on an office workstation from a MacBook, with the editor on one screen and documentation on another.
  • A developer works on a Windows PC and a Mac simultaneously from an iPad.

Applies to#

  • Session settings: Jump Desktop on Windows, macOS, iPhone, iPad, and Android Beta.

  • Fluid connections to a Windows or Mac host with Jump Desktop Connect.
  • High color is available on every plan. More than one virtual display requires the Jump Desktop for Teams Enterprise plan.

Choose session settings#

During a Fluid session, open the Remote menu and choose:

Tip

When you connect from Jump Desktop on Windows or Mac to an Apple silicon Mac with more than 2 displays, choose Fluid 2.0 instead. For now, Fluid 2.0 outperforms the hardware encoder on a Mac in some cases, including this one.

To choose these settings on iPhone, iPad, and Android Beta, tap the Settings button in the session toolbar, then tap Remote. Jump Desktop saves your choices for that host.

Spread out across your screens#

  1. Choose Display > Presets > Matched Virtual Displays for one virtual display per screen. More than one virtual display requires the Jump Desktop for Teams Enterprise plan.
  2. For sharp text, keep Use Retina Resolution turned on in the Display menu.
  3. To keep the virtual displays on the host between sessions, turn on Keep After Disconnect. To reuse your window arrangement on your own screens, choose Display > Saved Presets > Save Current as Preset….

Use the shortcuts you know#

Copy and paste between computers#

In Fluid sessions, clipboard sync lets you paste copied text and formatted text on the other computer, in both directions. Clipboard sync does not apply when it is turned off for that host or when a team administrator has turned off Clipboard Sharing. Where pasting is not possible, such as on a sign-in screen, choose Remote > Send via Keyboard > Clipboard Text to type the clipboard text.

Work on several computers#

In Jump Desktop for Windows or Mac, connect to as many computers as you need simultaneously. To group sessions in one window in Jump Desktop for Mac, right-click a computer and choose Connect in New Tab.

Work on several computers from an iPad#

On iPad, touch and hold a computer in the computer list, then tap Connect in new window. Each computer opens in its own window. iPhone and Android Beta connect to one computer at a time.

Check that it worked#

  • In connection statistics, Color shows 4:4:4 8bit.
  • The Display menu lists one virtual display per screen, marked Virtual.
  • Text copied on one computer pastes on the other.

Advanced settings#

Change these settings only when they suit your configuration.

  • Maximum Bandwidth above 20 mbps: on the Jump Desktop for Teams Enterprise plan, you can test a Maximum Bandwidth value above 20 mbps.

    Warning

    A higher limit increases network load and can degrade performance.
