Connect Configuration settings reference#
This reference describes every setting in the Connect Configuration editor in the Teams dashboard, in the order the editor shows them. Each setting has its own anchor for direct links, such as #disable-background-logins. To create and assign a configuration, see Configure computers with Connect Configurations.
Applies to#
- Jump Desktop for Teams Enterprise plan.
- Team administrators.
- Hosts running Jump Desktop Connect on Windows, macOS, or Linux Alpha.
How to read this reference#
- Default is the value of a setting in a new configuration. A computer with no Connect Configuration uses the settings chosen in Connect on that computer instead; see Jump Desktop Connect settings.
- Hosts appears only for a setting that applies to some host platforms. In the editor, some of these settings also carry a platform label, such as Mac or Windows.
- Settings for Jump Desktop Connect 10.16 Alpha carry a Beta label and a minimum version label, such as 10.16.39+, in the editor. They are hidden until you select the Beta check box, and hosts running earlier versions of Connect ignore them. See Settings for Connect 10.16.
- To view a setting's description in the editor, hover over its name.
Updates#
Update Channel#
Default: Production.
The release channel from which Connect downloads updates: Production or Beta. Beta installs beta versions of Connect. It matches Install Beta Updates in Connect's settings. See Get beta updates.
Automatic Updates#
Default: on.
Installs Connect updates automatically. It matches Install Updates Automatically (Recommend) in Connect's settings.
Remote access settings#
Screen Sharing#
Default: on.
Allows the person at the host to share the host's screen with a sharing link from the Connect window. When off, Connect does not accept connections through a sharing link. This setting does not turn off Ask to Share Screen. See Share with a link.
Add Remote Access Users#
Default: off.
Allows people at the host to give other Jump Desktop accounts access to the host from the Connect window. When off, Connect shows Not allowed to change remote access users when someone tries to add a user, and accounts added that way cannot connect. Access granted by the team is not affected.
Allow Cloud Connections#
Default: on.
Allows connections set up through Jump's cloud service, which is how Jump Desktop connects to a host by default. When off, Connect ignores these connection requests, and the host accepts only manual connections by IP address or host name. Before turning it off, turn on Manual Fluid Connections; otherwise, users cannot connect to the host. See Choose a connectivity option.
Sleep Override#
Default: Follow System Settings. Hosts: Windows, Mac. Requires Connect 10.5 or later.
Prevents the host from sleeping so that it stays available for connections. The values are Follow System Settings, Always Keep Awake, and Keep Awake on AC Power. See Keep hosts awake.
Fluid Connections#
Fluid Enabled#
Default: on.
Allows Fluid connections to the host. It matches Fluid Remote Desktop in Connect's settings. When off, Jump Desktop shows The remote computer does not support the requested service.
Manual Fluid Connections#
Default: off.
Allows Cloudless Fluid connections, which reach the host by IP address or host name without Jump's cloud. See Cloudless Fluid.
Manual Fluid Port#
Default: 35384.
The port on which Connect listens for manual Fluid connections. See Before you start in Cloudless Fluid.
Allow Emergency Manual Connections Alpha#
Default: off. Requires Connect 10.16 or later; the editor labels it 10.16.39+.
Allows a local administrator to turn on Manual Fluid Connections at the host itself, for example during a cloud outage. Without this setting, the host ignores that local override. See Emergency manual connections.
Maximum Concurrent Connections#
Default: Unlimited. Values: Unlimited, or 1 to 10.
The maximum number of simultaneous Fluid connections to each host. A connection over the limit is disconnected after sign-in. The limit does not apply to:
- Users who sign in with a local administrator account on a Windows host.
- Users who sign in with a local administrator account on a Mac host while Disable Background Logins is on.
- Passwordless logins.
Fluid Settings#
Clipboard Sharing#
Default: on.
Allows copy and paste between the user's device and the host during Fluid sessions. When off, text copied on one side does not paste on the other. See Turn off clipboard sharing for team computers.
Display Resolution Matching#
Default: on.
Allows Jump Desktop sessions to change the resolution of the host's physical displays, for example with Match Display Resolution. When off, the host's displays keep their resolution during sessions. Virtual displays are controlled separately by Allow Virtual Displays. See Switch and arrange remote displays.
Allow Stylus Remoting#
Default: on. Hosts: Windows, Mac.
Sends pen input with pressure and tilt from Jump Desktop on Windows or macOS to the host. When off, the host receives pen input as mouse input. See Pen and stylus input.
Audio Streaming#
Default: on.
Streams the host's sound to the user's device. When off, sessions to the host have no sound. See Remote audio.
Change System Audio Output#
Default: on. Hosts: Mac.
Switches the Mac's audio output to Connect's audio capture device when a user connects, and switches it back when the user disconnects. It matches Change Audio Device in Connect's settings. See Stop Connect switching the Mac's output.
Disable Background Logins#
Default: off. Hosts: Mac.
Disable Background Logins prevents new background logins on Mac hosts. Use it on a shared Mac to keep users from starting separate background sessions. An administrator connects to the desktop shown on the Mac's display unless they already have their own session; then they connect to that session instead.
The table shows what happens when a user signs in to the host with a local account. "Signed in at the Mac" means the user whose session is shown on the Mac's own display.
| Situation | Off (default) | On |
|---|---|---|
| No one is signed in at the Mac | Jump Desktop shows the Mac's login window. | Jump Desktop shows the Mac's login window. |
| The same user is signed in at the Mac | The user connects to their own session. | The user connects to their own session. |
| A different user is signed in at the Mac, and the connecting user is a standard user | Connect signs the user in to a separate background session. | Connect refuses the connection. |
| A different user is signed in at the Mac, and the connecting user is a Mac administrator | Connect signs the administrator in to a separate background session. | The administrator connects to the session on the Mac's display and sees the signed-in user's desktop. If the administrator already has their own session on the Mac, they connect to that session instead. |
With this setting on, Mac administrators are also exempt from Maximum Concurrent Connections. To refuse sign-in for every user, including administrators, while someone else is signed in at the host, use Unattended Login instead.
Privacy Mode#
Default: Client Controlled. Hosts: Windows, Mac.
Controls privacy mode, which blanks the host's physical displays and blocks its local keyboard and mouse during a session. The values are Client Controlled, Always Enabled, and Always Disabled. See Enforce privacy mode for a team.
Passwordless Login#
Default: Not allowed.
Controls whether users can connect to the host without entering a local account's password. The values are Not allowed, Only when no one is logged in, and Always allowed.
Only when no one is logged in requires no signed-in user on macOS, or no active graphical user session on Linux Alpha. Both require no other Jump Desktop connection. On Windows, this option still requires a password.
A passwordless session connects to the session shown on the host's display, or to the login screen if no one is signed in. Choosing a value other than Not allowed opens the Enable Passwordless Logins confirmation dialog. See Sign in to hosts without a password.
Unattended Login Alpha#
Default: Always allowed. Requires Connect 10.16 or later; the editor labels it 10.16.34+.
Controls whether a user can sign in with a local account while a different user is signed in at the host. The values are Always allowed and Only when no one is at the computer. When sign-in is refused, screen sharing is still offered. See Refuse sign-in while someone else is at the host.
Local Authentication Restrictions#
Default: Not Set. Requires Connect 10.5 or later.
Limits sign-in with a local account to the users and groups you list. See Restrict who can sign in to hosts.
Allow Expired Passwords Alpha#
Default: off. Hosts: Windows, Mac. Requires Connect 10.16 or later; the editor labels it 10.16.39+.
Allows users to sign in with a correct password that has expired; the host then asks them to change it. When off, Jump Desktop shows Password change required. See Allow sign-in with an expired password.
Watermark#
Default: off.
Shows a text overlay on the host's displays during Fluid sessions. The text identifies who is connected, from where, and when. See Add a watermark to sessions.
Idle Timeout#
Default: Not set (no timeout). Value: a duration in seconds.
Disconnects a session when no keyboard or mouse input occurs for longer than the duration you enter. Jump Desktop on macOS, iPhone, and iPad then shows The host closed the connection because the session was idle for too long. See Error messages.
Max Session Duration#
Default: Not set (no limit). Value: a duration in seconds. Requires Connect 10.5 or later.
Disconnects a session when it reaches the duration you enter. See Limit session length.
Maximum Frames Per Second#
Default: Auto. Values: Auto (0), or a number up to 60.
The highest frame rate at which the host sends video. The actual frame rate can be lower, depending on connection conditions, but does not exceed this value. Auto uses Connect's own maximum.
Minimum Target Bandwidth#
Default: Auto.
The minimum bandwidth each connection targets. See Get the best performance.
Maximum Target Bandwidth#
Default: Auto.
The maximum bandwidth each connection targets. See Get the best performance.
Initial Bandwidth Estimate#

The color level that sessions start with: Automatic, Good (4:2:0 8bit), High (4:4:4 8bit), Pro (4:2:0 10bit), or Ultra (4:4:4 10bit). While Allow Color Quality Change is on, Jump Desktop applies its saved color level when connecting. Turn it off to enforce this default. On Windows hosts, Pro and Ultra require Connect 10.16 or later Alpha. See Codecs and hardware encoding.
Allow Color Quality Change#
Default: on.
Allows users to change the color level during a session and apply their saved color level when connecting. Turn it off to enforce Default Color Quality. See Codecs and hardware encoding.
Default Video Codec#
Default: Automatic.
The codec that sessions start with: Automatic, Fluid, or Fluid 2.0. While Allow Video Codec Change is on, Jump Desktop applies its own codec choice when connecting. Turn it off to enforce this default. See Codecs and hardware encoding.
Allow Video Codec Change#
Default: on.
Allows users to change the codec during a session and apply their own codec choice when connecting. Turn it off to enforce Default Video Codec. See Codecs and hardware encoding.
Virtual Displays#
Allow Virtual Displays#
Default: on.
Allows users to create virtual displays on the host. See Allow Virtual Displays.
Fixed Virtual Displays#
Default: Not Set.
A fixed set of virtual displays that Connect creates when someone connects. See Fixed virtual displays.
Persistent#
Default: Client Controlled.
Controls whether virtual displays persist on the host after users disconnect: Client Controlled, Always Enabled, or Always Disabled. See Persistent.
Disconnect Hotkey Alpha#
These settings require Connect 10.16 or later; the editor labels them 10.16.71+. See Disconnect session hotkey.
Disconnect Session Hotkey#
Default: on.
Turns on the keyboard shortcut that a person at the host presses on the host's keyboard to disconnect the current session. On Linux Alpha hosts, the shortcut works in X11 sessions only.
Default Hotkey#

See Allow MIDI devices, serial ports, and driverless devices.
Networking#
Direct Connections Only#
Default: off.
Requires a direct network path between the user's device and the host, such as a shared LAN or a VPN, unless Relay Connections Only is also on. With both on, connections use only configured on-premises relays and fail if none are configured. See How the settings combine.
Allowed Viewer Subnets Alpha#
Default: Not Set. Requires Connect 10.16 or later; the editor labels it 10.16.69+.
Accepts Fluid connections only from addresses in the listed subnets. For a direct connection, the host checks the address of the user's device; for a relayed connection, it checks the relay server's address, so add your relay servers to the list. See Restrict connections by subnet.
Allowed Host Subnets Alpha#
Default: Not Set. Requires Connect 10.16 or later; the editor labels it 10.16.69+.
Limits Connect to the host's network interfaces with an address in one of the listed subnets. See Restrict connections by subnet.
