Team roles and remote access

Every member of a Jump Desktop for Teams team has a role and a remote access setting. Together they separate managing the team from connecting to its computers, so you pay only for members who connect. For example, give help-desk staff Admin (Read-Only) to see the team without changing it, or turn off remote access for an admin who never connects.

The two settings are independent:

  • Role controls what they can do in the team dashboard.
  • Remote access controls whether they can connect to the team's computers, and whether you pay for them.

Roles

User Admin (Read-Only) Admin
Connect to computers they've been given access to Yes Yes Yes
View users, computers, Access Groups, settings, logs, and billing No Yes Yes
Change anything in the team No No Yes
  • User: the role given to people who join by invite or single sign-on. Sees only their own Access Groups and computers.
  • Admin (Read-Only): suits security, compliance, or help-desk staff who need visibility without making changes.
  • Admin: manages users, roles, computers, Access Groups, Connect Configurations, security settings, and billing.

A role doesn't grant access to computers. Every role, including Admin, connects only to computers it's been given access to, for example through Access Groups.

Roles apply per team: a person can be a User on one team and an Admin on another.

Remote access

Remote access is turned on by default. When an Admin turns it off for a member:

  • The member can't connect to the team's computers, and any active sessions are disconnected.
  • Your team isn't billed for that member.
  • Their role doesn't change. An Admin with remote access off can still manage the team.
  • Their Access Group memberships are kept, so turning remote access back on restores their access.

Turn it off for admins who never connect or members who are away. Turning it back on resumes billing; if the team is at its seat limit, resolve billing or turn off another member first.

A team must always keep at least one Admin and at least one member with remote access turned on.

Change a role or remote access

An Admin makes these changes.

  1. In the Teams dashboard, open your team, click Users, and select the member.
  2. Click the More (⋮) menu next to their name.
  3. Choose one of:
  4. Change Role: pick Admin, Admin (Read-Only), or User, then click Change role.
  5. Turn off remote access or Turn on remote access, then confirm.

To change several members at once, select them in the Users table and use the same actions.
