Choose a connectivity option

Connectivity options decide how connections reach your team's computers: through Jump's cloud and public relays, through your own relays, over a direct network path only, or with no Jump cloud at all. Jump Desktop for Teams offers four options, and all connections are encrypted end to end.

Start with cloud-managed, the default. It's the simplest option and works on any Teams plan with no extra setup. Most small offices don't need on-premises relays, direct connections only, or Cloudless Fluid.

Cloud-managed (default)

The Jump cloud authorizes the user and sets up the connection. Jump tries a direct peer-to-peer connection first and falls back to public relays when the network blocks it. If the remote computer reaches the internet only through a proxy, see Use a proxy server.

Cloud-managed with on-premises relays

Connect uses your relay servers instead of Jump's public relays. Relays only carry connection traffic and can't decrypt it. Sign-in, access control, and connection setup still go through the Jump cloud. You run and secure the relays.

Direct connections only

Connections fail unless the two devices have a direct network path. Use this to require a VPN or a shared LAN. You provide the VPN. To combine it with Relay Connections Only, see Force connections through a relay.

Cloudless Fluid

Users connect to the remote computer's IP address or host name and sign in with a local account on it. The Jump cloud doesn't set up or authorize the connection, so Teams dashboard access controls don't apply. You manage firewalls (ports) and stable addresses. The Jump Desktop app must be signed in to a Teams Enterprise account.

Choosing an option

  • Cloud-managed: the simplest setup.
  • On-premises relays: relayed traffic must run through servers you control.
  • Direct connections only: users must be on your VPN or LAN to connect.
  • Cloudless Fluid: computers must accept connections without the Jump cloud in the path, and you can manage network security and host addresses yourself.

You can combine Cloudless Fluid with cloud connections, or turn off Allow Cloud Connections so the computer accepts only manual IP connections.
