Privacy mode#

Privacy mode is a session mode that prevents people near the host from viewing or interfering with your session. It is intended for hosts in shared spaces, such as an open-plan office. While privacy mode is on, the host:

  • Blanks its physical displays.
  • Blocks its local keyboard and mouse.
  • Locks when your session ends.

Applies to#

  • Jump Desktop on Windows, macOS, iPhone, iPad, and Android Beta.
  • Fluid sessions to hosts running Jump Desktop Connect on Windows or macOS. Linux is not supported.
  • VNC connections to a Mac with Screen Sharing turned on. These connections do not require Connect. See VNC connections to a Mac.

Turn on privacy mode#

During a Fluid session:

  • Windows and macOS: choose Remote > Privacy Mode.
  • iPhone and iPad: if the toolbar is hidden, tap the three-dot bar at the top of the screen. Tap the Settings button, then Privacy > Privacy Mode.
  • Android: in the session toolbar, tap the Settings button, then Privacy Mode. A message confirms Privacy Mode On or Privacy Mode Off.

To turn privacy mode off, choose the same item again.

Jump Desktop saves the setting for that computer, so later sessions to it start with privacy mode on. On Windows and macOS, you can also configure it before connecting: in the computer's settings, select Privacy Mode on the Privacy page.

Enforce privacy mode for a team#

To enforce or disable privacy mode on team computers, team administrators use the Privacy Mode setting under Fluid Settings in a Connect Configuration:

Value Effect
Client Controlled (default) Each user turns privacy mode on or off.
Always Enabled Every session uses privacy mode. Users cannot turn it off.
Always Disabled Privacy mode is not available in the client.

Result#

When you disconnect, the host restores its physical displays and local keyboard and mouse, and the host is locked.

Limitations#

On a macOS client, Privacy Mode is not shown in sessions started with Ask to Share Screen.

VNC connections to a Mac#

In Jump Desktop on macOS, iPhone, and iPad, Privacy Mode is also available for VNC connections to a Mac using Screen Sharing or Apple Remote Desktop. Turn it on from the same menus as in a Fluid session. The Mac shows its lock screen with Screen locked by followed by your username or device name. Privacy mode is not available on other VNC servers.

Connect is not part of these connections, so team Privacy Mode settings do not apply. To enforce privacy mode, instruct users to connect with Fluid through Connect.
