Copy and paste between computers#

Clipboard sync is the synchronization of copied text between your computer or device and the host (the computer you connect to), in both directions. It removes the need to retype commands, links, and passwords.

For example:

  • A developer copies an error message on the host and pastes it into a chat on their own laptop.
  • A support technician pastes a download link from their own computer into a browser on a customer's host.

Applies to#

  • Fluid connections to a Windows or Mac host from Jump Desktop on Windows, macOS, iPhone, iPad, Android Beta, and the browser client.
  • Syncs text, including formatted text, in both directions. Images and files are not copied.
  • Turning off Clipboard Sharing for team computers requires the Jump Desktop for Teams Enterprise plan.

Turn clipboard sync on or off#

On team computers, a team administrator on the Jump Desktop for Teams Enterprise plan can also turn it off for everyone.

Clipboard sync is always on. Your clipboard syncs while the session window is active.

Clipboard sync is on by default. To turn it off for one computer:

  1. Right-click the computer and choose Edit....
  2. Click Sharing and clear Sync Clipboards.
  3. Save.

  • Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers, such as Edge: in the settings drawer, turn on Sharing > Clipboard Sync and click Allow when the browser requests clipboard permission. Until you grant permission, a warning icon appears next to Clipboard Sync; click the icon for steps to grant permission from the address bar.
  • Other browsers, such as Safari and Firefox: with Clipboard Sync on, use the toolbar button to send your clipboard to the host. Safari also has a toolbar button to retrieve the host's clipboard.

Clipboard Sync is not available when you join through a screen sharing link. See Connect from a web browser.

Turn off clipboard sharing for team computers#

Team administrators on the Jump Desktop for Teams Enterprise plan can turn off clipboard sync for team computers:

  1. In the Teams dashboard, open Connect Configurations and edit the configuration assigned to the computers.
  2. Under Fluid Settings, turn off Clipboard Sharing.
  3. To confirm the change, connect to one of the computers and copy text; the text does not paste on the other side.

Type your clipboard where pasting doesn't work#

Some input locations, such as a sign-in screen, do not accept pasted text. In these locations, Jump Desktop can type your clipboard text as keystrokes.

  • Windows and macOS: choose Remote > Send via Keyboard > Clipboard Text. This command types up to 1 KB of text.
  • iPhone and iPad: tap the Settings button in the session toolbar, then Clipboard Text, or use the clipboard key in the extra keys row of the on-screen keyboard.
  • Android: tap the clipboard key in the extra keys row of the on-screen keyboard.

Check that it worked#

  • Copy a line of text on your computer or device, then paste it in an app on the host.
  • Copy text on the host, then paste it on your computer or device.
  • In Jump Desktop for Windows or Mac, Typing clipboard text... appears when you choose Clipboard Text.
