Video editing and color work

Edit and grade video on a remote workstation with accurate color and smooth playback. Use 10-bit color, match your project's frame rate, and give the session enough bandwidth for several high-resolution displays.

Applies to

  • Jump Desktop on Windows and macOS.
  • Fluid connections to a remote computer with Jump Desktop Connect.
  • Pro and Ultra color, frame rates such as 23.976 or 59.94 fps, bandwidth above 20 mbps, and more than one virtual display need the Jump Desktop for Teams Enterprise plan.

Set up the session

In Jump Desktop for Windows or Mac, during a Fluid session:

  1. Network: use Ethernet on both the remote computer and the device you connect from. See Set up the network.
  2. Displays: use virtual displays matched to your screens, or a fixed size that matches your project, such as 3840 × 2160. If Frames drops, turn off Use Retina Resolution. See Keep the pixel load in check.
  3. Color: choose Remote > Color > Pro or Ultra (Enterprise plan). 10-bit color is available on Mac and Linux (beta) remote computers, and in beta on Windows remote computers. Ultra usually needs Fluid 2.0. See Color levels by remote computer and codec.
  4. Codec: Hardware if the GPU supports your color level; otherwise Fluid 2.0. Jump Desktop switches for you. See Automatic switching.
  5. Framerate: Auto, or your project's frame rate, such as 23.976, 24, 25, 29.97, 50, or 59.94 fps.
  6. Maximum Bandwidth: raise it above 20 mbps only when both networks have the headroom; otherwise a higher limit can cause packet loss. This matters most with several displays.
  7. Calibrated displays: turn on Color Passthrough in the Color menu. It needs a Windows remote computer or a Mac running macOS 15 or later. See Color Passthrough.

Check that it worked

In connection statistics, Color shows 4:2:0 10bit for Pro or 4:4:4 10bit for Ultra, and Frames stays close to Max Frames during playback. If Frames drops, see Slow or laggy sessions.
