Change team ownership¶
Teams have no single owner: every Admin has full control, and a team can have several. To hand over a team, for example when the person who set it up leaves or changes role, make the new person an Admin, then demote or remove the old one.
Applies to¶
- Team administrators with the Admin role. Admin (Read-Only) can't change roles.
Steps¶
- If the new owner isn't on the team yet, invite them. See Add and manage users.
- In the Teams dashboard, open your team, click Users, and click the new owner.
- Click the More (⋮) menu, then Change Role.
- Select Admin and click Change role.
- Sign in as the new Admin and open the old Admin's user page.
- Click More (⋮), then either:
- Change Role to make them a User or Admin (Read-Only), or
- Remove from team to remove them.
The old Admin can also leave on their own: on their own user page, click More (⋮), then Leave team.
Result¶
The new Admin has full control. The old Admin loses admin access, or all computer access if removed.
Update billing¶
The subscription stays with the team, but invoices still go to the email address used at checkout and the payment method doesn't change. On the Billing page, the new Admin can:
- Click Update Billing to change the payment method.
- Use Manage Invoice Recipients, where available, to send invoices to more addresses.
Limitations¶
- A team must keep at least one Admin. Demoting or removing the last one fails with "Team requires at least one active administrator".
