Grant macOS permissions to Connect

Connect needs macOS permissions to show and control a Mac's screen. Without them you can't see or control the Mac remotely, and on macOS 14 and later unattended access can stop working. Grant them at the Mac right after installing Connect, or when a Mac you set up can't be seen or controlled.

Applies to

  • Someone at the Mac.
  • Macs running Jump Desktop Connect, which requires macOS 10.15 or later. The permissions assistant requires macOS 13 or later.

Permissions Connect needs

Permission Required What it's for
Screen Recording Yes Streams your Mac's display to the device you connect from.
Accessibility Yes Lets you control the mouse and keyboard.
Remote Desktop macOS 14 and later Keeps unattended access working. Without it, macOS can ask you to approve screen recording again, which blocks access when no one is at the Mac.
Microphone No Streams your Mac's sound. Without it, you can see and control the Mac but not hear it.

Steps

  1. On the Mac, open Jump Desktop Connect. If permissions are missing or haven't been reviewed, the Jump Desktop Connect Permissions assistant opens.

    To open it yourself, click the settings icon, select Diagnostics, and click Check macOS Permissions....

  2. Click Continue and follow each step. The assistant requests each permission or opens the matching page in macOS Privacy & Security settings, where you turn on Jump Desktop Connect. Continue becomes available as Screen Recording, Accessibility, and Microphone are granted.

  3. On the Unattended Remote Desktop step (macOS 14 and later), click Request Remote Desktop Permission... or Open in System Preferences.... Turn on Jump Desktop Connect in Privacy & Security > Remote Desktop, then click Continue. Connect can't detect this permission, so check it yourself.

  4. On the Microphone Access step, grant access or click Skip.

  5. On the All Done! page, click Close.

You can change these permissions later in macOS Privacy & Security settings.

If Connect isn't listed in Screen Recording

  1. On the assistant's Screen Recording step, click Request Screen Recording Permission... (or Open In System Preferences...). This adds Jump Desktop Connect to the list.
  2. If it still isn't listed, restart the Mac, then check Privacy & Security > Screen Recording again.

If you don't want remote access to this Mac

Uninstall Connect. The Jump Desktop app, for connecting from this Mac, isn't affected.
