Hardware decoding requirements#

This reference lists what your device requires to display a session that the host (the computer you connect to) encodes with the Hardware codec. The host has separate hardware encoding requirements. To choose a codec, see Codecs and hardware encoding.

When your device cannot decode anything the host's GPU produces, the Codec menu shows This computer can't decode the host's hardware codecs (This device can't decode the host's hardware codecs on Android). In that case, use Fluid 2.0.

Jump Desktop on Windows#

GPU Graphics driver Other requirements
NVIDIA 551.76 or later None.
AMD Keep it up to date. None.
Intel Keep it up to date. 11th Gen Intel Core or newer, Intel Arc, or Intel Iris Xe MAX. See supported Intel GPUs.

A Windows PC without one of these GPUs, such as a virtual machine, may not be able to use Hardware. Use Fluid 2.0 instead.

Supported Intel GPUs#

Intel hardware decoding in Jump Desktop on Windows requires an 11th Gen Intel Core processor or newer, or an Intel Arc or Iris Xe MAX graphics card.

Supported:

  • Built-in graphics in 11th Gen Intel Core processors and newer: Tiger Lake, Rocket Lake, Alder Lake, Raptor Lake, Meteor Lake, Arrow Lake, Lunar Lake, and Panther Lake.
  • Intel Arc A-series and B-series graphics cards.
  • Intel Iris Xe MAX graphics cards.

Not supported:

  • Built-in graphics in 10th Gen Intel Core processors and older, such as Ice Lake, Comet Lake, Coffee Lake, Kaby Lake, and Sky Lake.

Jump Desktop on macOS, iPhone, and iPad#

Hardware decoding is built into macOS, iOS, and iPadOS.

Jump Desktop on Android Beta#

Requires Android 10 or later. Jump Desktop uses the device's built-in video decoders.

Color levels#

A device that can decode 4:4:4 color is required for High color from a Windows host's NVIDIA or Intel GPU, and for Ultra color from its NVIDIA GPU. If your device cannot decode 4:4:4 color, Jump Desktop on Windows, macOS, iPhone, and iPad switches the session to Fluid 2.0 and tries Hardware again the next time you connect. See Automatic switching.

Check that it's working#

Turn on connection statistics during a session. When your device's hardware is decoding, Decoder shows Hardware followed by the GPU vendor.
