Add a computer with a Connect Code

A Connect Code adds a computer to a Jump Desktop account or team without sharing a password. It can't be used to sign in. Use one when someone at another computer needs to give you access, or to add a computer that already has Connect to a team.

Code from What entering it does
A personal account Adds that account as a remote access user on the computer.
A team Adds the computer to the team. Team administrators then manage its configuration and who can access it.

Applies to

  • Remote computers running Jump Desktop Connect on Windows, macOS, or Linux (beta).
  • The person at the remote computer enters the code.

Get a Connect Code

Personal account: Sign in to the Jump Desktop dashboard and click Home. Your code is under Your Connect Codes. If you don't have one yet, click Create My Personal Connect Code. Next to the code, copy it, or send setup instructions to the person at the computer with Shareable Link or Mail Instructions.

Team: An administrator copies the Connect Code of an installer in Add Computers. See Add and manage computers.

The dashboard shows codes with spaces, such as 123 456 789.

Enter the code in Connect

Warning

Use a code only if you trust the person who sent it. They will be able to connect to this computer.

  1. Install Jump Desktop Connect and open it.
  2. Click Add a remote access user.
  3. Click Click here to sign in via your web browser...
  4. In the browser, click Give remote access to someone else.
  5. Enter the code and click Next.
  6. Check the account or team name, then click Allow. If the page shows Sign in to Allow, sign in with any Jump Desktop account first.

Pass the code to the install script (see Install Jump Desktop Connect). If Connect is already installed, run:

/usr/libexec/jump/jumpconnect --connectcode 123456789

For scripts on any platform, see Deploy with a Connect Code. Remove the spaces from the code on the command line.

Result

  • Personal code: The account appears in Connect's list of remote access users. Sign in to Jump Desktop with that account to connect.
  • Team code: The computer appears under Computers in the Teams dashboard, with the installer's remote access permissions and Connect Configuration applied.

Reuse and revoke

  • Connect Codes created in the dashboard don't expire and work on any number of computers.
  • Personal code: In Your Connect Codes, click Delete. The code stops working. To remove the account from a computer it was already added to, remove it from the remote access users in Connect on that computer.
  • Team code: Delete the installer in Add Computers. Computers already added stay in the team.

Limitations

  • A computer can belong to only one team. A team code fails on a computer linked to another team until it's removed from that team.
  • Codes from attributed installers require the person to sign in, so they don't work with --connectcode.
  • If a policy blocks adding remote access users, Connect shows Not allowed to change remote access users.
